Trophy Sculptor

Award sculptures for the 3D printer. Set the height first; everything else scales with it. Then pick one of six families, engrave the plinth and download an STL that prints upright without support material.

• Six families: a crossed lattice cage, a flame of turning ribbons, a twisted and leaning stele, a cluster of quartz crystals in a rock half sunk into the plinth, a pile of bismuth hopper crystals with their stepped, spiralling faces, a gnarled tree whose branches thin by Murray's law.
• Printability is part of the construction: no surface leans past the overhang limit you set, and a layer-by-layer check confirms it.
• Engraving on the front of the plinth, cut at an angle that also prints without support.
• One part as a single STL, or plinth and sculpture as two parts in two colours, joined by steel dowel pins, a keyed boss and socket, or a wide foot.
